Independent India is a partner and a friend of Shipyard "Yantar".



The Republic of India has become rather more close to Kaliningrad region in July 2005 when Shipyard Yantar had signed a contract for construction of three Frigates for Indian Navy. Special importance of this international agreement lies in the fact of serial nature of the Indian order. The last Frigate of this series was laid down in July of the current year and the first one will be launched by Shipyard “Yantar” in 2011.

Kaliningrad shipbuilders approached to this serial order with all due responsibility. The buyer’s Warship Overseeing Team, working at Shipyard since December 2007, confirms high quality of construction. The both parties are satisfied with co-operation and the Indian Order is surrounded with the most friendly atmosphere. All 13 members of Indian team became true friends of Kaliningrad shipbuilders.

On 15.August.2008 personnel of Shipyard together with their Indian Customers celebrated the Independence Day of India. On that day in 1947 D. Neru, the prime-minister of India, in the presence of thousands of people has hoisted Tricolor of independent India over the walls of Red Fort in Delhi. Indian team marked this date by unforgettable festival of traditions and culture of their native country and representatives of Shipyard were welcome guests at this solemn event.

Administration of Shipyard Yantar has sent Letters of congratulation to some high-ranking officials of India in Russia. In particular this Letter stated as follows:

“We sincerely congratulate You on the Independence Day, the holyday, considered by India as the first day of modern democratic India, on the day that since hoisting a tricolor over the walls of the Red Fort marked the turning point in the history of the country and in the life of it’s citizens. From immemorial our countries are linked with friendly relations and fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and we greatly appreciate it. We deeply believe in continuation and enlargement of this cooperation”.


At the beginning of September Shipyard received an answer from India. Vice Admiral Dilip Deshpande, Controller Warship Production & Acquisition of Integrated Headquarters Ministry of Defence of India states:

“Thank you very much for felicitations on the occasion of our Independence Day. It is indeed a kind thought and gesture of good will from a true fried, which we value the most. On this memorable occasion I would like to re-affirm our resolve to further strengthen the time tested friendship between our countries “.
