Joint Stock Company «Shipyard «Yantar» was established in 1945 on the base of the German former «Schichau» company. The history of the Shipyard is inseparably linked with formation and development of the youngest Russian region - Kaliningrad oblast.
Baltic Shipyard «Yantar» is the only Russian shipbuilding yard located in the South-Eastern part of the Baltic sea in proximity with largest industrial centers of Europe.

Kaliningrad region is the most Western region of the Russian Federation completely separated from the rest of the countryв's territory by land frontier of foreign states (Lithuania and Poland) and international seas' waters.

Status of a special economic zone with developed infrastructure provides the oblast with a number of advantages. Sea transport occupies a highly important place and remains a key element of Kaliningrad oblast specialization in the North-West of Russia and in the Baltic region in general. The roads network remains the other important element of the oblast feature.

It's prospects are connected with integration into general European network of highways, taking into consideration that territory of the region is crossed by the most important European corridors - Via Hanseatica and Via Baltica. Economics of the region in it's character is apparently industrial with a significant share of high-tech products manufacturers.               

City of Kaliningrad is the only non-freezing port on the Baltic sea and a center of the most Western region of the Russian Federation. The port of Kaliningrad consists of three independent trans-loading Enterprises (two sea ports and one river port) located in the mouth of the Pregol river. The sea is connected with the port's water areas by Kaliningrad sea channel 40 km long.



The Shipyard has at it's disposal it's own territory and modern facilities what gives an opportunity to construct vessels up to 20 000 t DWT. Quality Management System of the Enterprise corresponds with requirements of ISO 9001 International Standards.

For 65 years of development Shipyard «Yantar» has become a well known builder of modern warships and civil vessels of various classes and purposes. Besides traditional war and civil shipbuilding the Shipyard copes with such forward-looking production trends as construction of aluminum vessels, mechanical engineering and metal working, ship repairing and modernization, metal structures construction. For the total period since 1949 till 2010 the Enterprise has built for Russian Navy 154 ship, to be exact:

  •  Patrol ships Project 29 (3 units.), Project 42 (7 units.), Project 50 (41 units.), Project 11540 (2 units.)
  • Anti-submarine ships Project 159 (24 units.), Project 35 (18 units.), Project 1135 «Burevestnik» (19 units.), Project 1155, 1155.1 «Frigate» (9 units.); - large landing ships Project 1171 «Tapir» (14 units.) and Project 1174 «Nosorog» (3 units.); - space communication ships Project 1826 «Rubidiy» (3 units.).

In addition to warships in 1945- 2010 the Yard launched more than 100 large and about 400 small civilian vessels. Among them worth of noting are: dry cargo vessels Project 781 «Baltiyskiy»; ice-breaking ferry boats «Sakhalin»; rescue tugboats of ice-class Project 843 and harbor tugboats Project 04983; self-propelled river cargo barges Project 898 «Dnepr», environment protection vessel Project 6457С.

Shipyard «Yantar» has repaired more than 450 military ships and civilian vessels. The main directions forming a base of production programs of the Yard at the present moment are as follows: execution of the government defense order, participation in military technical cooperation, civil shipbuilding and ship repair, support of the Baltic fleet technical state. At the present days the following orders are under construction at Shipyard «Yantar»:

  • Large landing ship the «Ivan Gren» Project 11711 developed by JSC «Nevskoye PDB»;
  • The «Seliger» vessel for tests conducting Project 11982, developed by JSC «Almaz «CMDB». The vessel has been laid down on 8 July 2009.
  • Patrol ships Project 11356R developed by JSC «Severnoye Design Bureau».

In the frames of military technical cooperation Shipyard Yantar is building for Navy of India a series of Frigates Project 11356 developed by JSC «Severnoye Design Bureau».
